IOBC Parthenium Working Group Workshop
The IOBC Working Group on Biological Control and Management of Parthenium
Weed promotes the use of sustainable, environmentally safe, economically feasible and
socially acceptable control methods, including biological control, of Parthenium
hysterophorus (Asteraceae) in the invasive plant’s introduced range (Africa, Asia, and
Australia). In Bengaluru, the workshop will review and discuss the recent developments on
control and management of this pernicious weed. The future course of action will also be
chalked out. The participants will have a chance to visit field sites around Bengaluru where
they can see biocontrol in action.
Lead talk on “Biological control of Parthenium weed: translating Australian success to other countries? – K Dhileepan, Principal Entomologist, Invasive Plant & Animal Science, Biosecurity Queensland, Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, Queensland, Australia"
